Gill BlowerGill has enjoyed drawing portraits since her childhood. This provided a good grounding in draughtmanship and in the use of tonal values, which served her well when she took up watercolour painting in her early twenties. Largely self taught, she has also benefitted from instruction by some leading comtemporary British watercolourists such as Ron Ranson. Working with the added element of colour is an enjoyable challenge! Gill continues to be inspired by great watercolourists such as Cheng-Khee Chee, John Yardley and Lucy Willis.
Gill is a Christian and now lives with her family at the edge of the Peak District. This is a dramatic change from her seaside childhood in Jersey, but Carsington Water, the reservoir just ten minutes walk from her current home, attracts many of the same shorebirds and waders that she loved as a child. Gill and her family love to travel, but they also enjoy the luxury of being able to walk here in odd moments. The sky, the birds, the reflections on the water . . . such things keeps the artist's creative juices flowing! |
